Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
The 2023 Estate Sauvignon Blanc is light straw in color and brilliantly clear. The nose begins with gooseberry, green apple, pine resin, and honeysuckle with a touch of oak on the mid-palate. Bright fruit, well-balanced acid, and minerality lead to a round mouthfeel.
Vineyard Notes
Established in 1977, Woodward Canyon is the westernmost vineyard in Walla Walla Valley AVA, roughly 15 miles west of Walla Walla, Washington. There are 35 vineyard acres planted and several more acres of green belts that support native species such as western juniper, ponderosa pine, western sage-brush, arrowleaf balsamroot, and perennial wildflowers. Ritzville silt loam over fractured basalt, slope 15-18%, 750-850ft elevation. Managed by Woodward Canyon. All grapes are Salmon Safe certified, as is the wine.
Production Notes
This Walla Walla Valley Sauvignon Blanc is produced from our Estate grown fruit. Four different Sauvignon Blanc clones were hand-harvested, sorted, and the whole cluster pressed. Settled juice was chilled and cold fermented in stainless steel; this wine did not go through malolactic fermentation. After primary fermentation, the wine was aged in neutral Sirugue French oak for additional complexity and roundness.
Winemaker Notes
Proper storage for quality white wines is to cellar them on their side at 55 to 60 degrees and chill to 45 to 48 degrees (depending on the varietal) just prior to serving to avoid the development of tartrate crystals.
Food Pairing Notes
Serve this with goat cheese, fresh summer salads, or ceviche.
