About Our "Artist Series"
Woodward Canyon Artist Series Cabernet Sauvignon
The Woodward Canyon Artist Series began in 1992 with the intent to showcase the finest Cabernet Sauvignon in Washington State; it has since become our flagship wine. We source fruit from some of the oldest and most highly regarded vineyards in the state; specifically for this wine, the average vine age is approximately 35–40 years.
Each year, the label features the work of a different West Coast artist. Recently, Dr. Owen Bargreen met with owner Rick Small and winemaker Kevin Mott for a comprehensive vertical tasting of the Artist Series, beginning with the inaugural 1992 vintage. Current Artist: Mary Crane Nutter
2022 ARTIST SERIES #31, “Trinity at Daybreak”, 32” x 36”, Acrylic on Wood, Mary Crane Nutter, Walla Walla, WA. Originally from Idaho Mary has lived in Walla Walla for 8 years with her husband and is a mother of two young daughters. She studied at the Art Institute of Seattle and has been an artist for 17 years. Mary worked as an interior designer and was especially drawn to textiles. That early inspiration is a common thread in her work. The textures and depth she creates through sanding elements and building up acrylic mediums offer a tactile reality to her art. The grid, a fundamental basis for her compositions, juxtaposes with her flattened reductionist style, where colors exist side by side rather than shaded. Her work invites you to step into a dream, an alternative view, or a vacation that you can visit anytime. http://www.mcraneart.com/, @mcraneart
