Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
This garnet red wine begins with dried violet, slate, strawberry jam, red apple and sheepskin. It continues with red plums and a subtle tomato vine on the mouth. Sweet, dry tannins create a good grip, and red fruit and savory aromas show varietal typicity.
Ratings
95 POINTS- Owen Bargreen: Stored in 30% new French oak, this was native-fermented as this comes from a range of estate blocks. Gorgeous red bell pepper, green peppercorns, anise and violets come into play on the nose. Seamless and soft with great richness and a fantastic core of black fruit flavors, this is elegant, well-balanced Cabernet Franc that will surely live on for another fifteen plus years to come. This might be the finest edition of this wine that I have tasted. Drink 2023-2038 | 93 POINTS, Editor's Choice - Wine Enthusiast | Welcome to the kitchen, where this Cabernet Franc's boysenberry pie and bacon fat aromas beckon you to pull up a chair. The flavors take a similar trek, with dried cherries and dark chocolate mixing it up with steaks grilled over charcoal. Acidity that will make you think of lemon peels lights it all up. — Michael Alberty | 92 POINTS - Sean Sullivan's NW Wine Report: The aromas bring notes of green and hot jalapeño pepper along with high cacao chocolate and cherry. The dark fruit flavors coat the palate from end to end, full in feel and showing pleasing layering. It’s lovely, though perhaps more reminiscent of a Carménère, leaning into this variety’s greener side. For those who appreciate that aspect of Franc, this wine brings it. | 91 POINTS - Vinous: Fresh herbs and peppery florals give way to dried black cherries as the 2021 Cabernet Franc Estate smolders up from the glass. It flows across the palate with silky textures and ripe red and blue fruits, all beneath an air of violet florals. Juicy acidity maintains marvelous freshness as the 2021 tapers off with outstanding length, framed by a gentle coating of fine tannin. Drink 2024- 2030. - Eric Guido | 90 POINTS - James Suckling: Rich and complex nose of olives, black fruit, sage and dried spices. Some mocha. It’s full-bodied, bold and flavorful, with fine tannins. Warming finish. Drink now or hold. |
