Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Bold aromas of red currant and plum mingle with hints of cedar and aromas reminiscent of freshly turned earth after a summer rain. A full-bodied mouthfeel delivers complex flavors of fig, interlaced with berries and earthy undertones. The wine is well structured with a nice balance of tannin and acidity.
Ratings
94 POINTS- Owen Bargreen: The 2021 ‘Merlot’ was stored in 40% new French oak before bottling. 100% varietal, this offers a smooth texture with red bell pepper, milk chocolate, anise, and shades of black licorice on the palate. Salty and savory, with a soft mouthfeel, this is absolutely delicious right now. Drink 2023-2036 | 93 POINTS - Wine Enthusiast: Subtle acidity and plush tannins make for a smooth and easy sip, with rich flavors of dark plums, pie crust dough and black coffee. The wine's aromas offer a sweet and floral combination of plumeria, ripe raspberries, cigar box and sugar cookies. The word “scrumptious” comes to mind here. — Michael Alberty | 93 POINTS- International Wine Report: Barrel fermented in 33% new French & Hungarian oak for 20 months, the 2021 Estate Merlot from Woodward Canyon showcases a glistening medium ruby core with a light red rim. Earthy and herbaceous to start, with a noticeable smokiness that blows off with time, it then gives flavors of black cherries, blue plums, scorched earth, and cedary herbs. Drink now. |
